José Vitória Arquitectura - Logo, Branding and More

Here is a small sample of the work done for one of the most prestigious Portuguese Architecture offices. José Vitória Arquitectura has existed for more than twenty years, produced a gigantic number of projects and built work. In response to the desire to rethink its image, we have developed a new solution for the logo, graphic language, branding, presence on social networks and even some objects, such as the company's cars. The process was based on a rich dialogue with the company, the discovery of the primordial axes and the consolidation of language and communication.

Testing a vintage lens with very bad reputation - Super Carenar 28mm f:2.8

Super Carenar 28mm f:2.8 is a vintage lens with a terrible and depressing reputation. Mine is korean made, and despite not being the best lens in the world, can take some quite acceptable photos. The center is relatively good but the corners are quite dim and blurred. No big chromatic aberrations are noticed and for video, and with a good sun-cap it turns out to be a good lens. Using f: 5.6, good results can be obtained, with f: 2.8 the bokeh not particularly interesting. The quality of construction is above average for this generation of lenses.

Other tests of archeology and photographic mechanics I've done:

Spartan Beard Label Design

We loved to make this label for Spartan Beard Co, so interesting and challenging. Beards are fashionable and the products of this universe need prominence and personality. We tried to play with the concept of strength, executing a label that shows youth, modernity and uniqueness.

StoreUp display corner

Our job was to materialize a simple concept in its function but complex in its objectives. These are devices that allow you to show products to sell but without a human salesperson. The customer should have contact with the products but the purchase is concluded in the interface embedded in each of the display corners or through the clients' mobile devices.

Repair Square Kiosk

Repair Square intends to place these kiosks / drop points in dozens of shops. If you are looking for a solution for a damaged mobile phone or tablet, you may be able to leave it at one of these points after identifying it, paying and packing your device.
Our work was to materialize this concept in an object that respects the aesthetics of the brand.

Designing a router

Finally we can publish a product design job. Most of the things we have done lately are developed under an NDA and are hidden in our archives. This was an interesting bet made for Vilfo, exploring the logo and branding of the company in the construction of an object that serves to communicate and to be looked at.

Green Furniture Concept: My submissions to a public contest

I didn't win the prize but it was cool to design it and to render it. These company organized the contest at crowdspring.com with this descriptive brief:

(...)
What do you do?

We create furniture for commercial areas such as airports, railway stations and shopping malls. We call our type of interiors grand and seamless. See pictures to get a grip over the environment.

What is the product designed to do?

See this youtube-video when our founder Johan Behrin describes the problem: https://youtu.be/z9UTiViiQZI
The product that we want your help to design is a add-on ending to our Nova C Double bench, something that closes and finalizes the bench. We want you to design something that will fit the ending of the bench to hide the inside of the bench. See attached pictures to get dimensions of the bench and a clearer view of the problem that we want solved.(...)

 These were my submitted concepts:

Decotes

This was the presentation edition of the magazine "Decotes"(Cleavages) in 1988. Published by Projeto Já and coordinated by Paulo Gamelas, Pedro Loureiro, Jorge Silva, Cristina Aleluia and Rui Pedro Pêgo. It was one of the first "most serious" things I've done in the design world ... and it's been almost 30 years! At the suggestion of a friend, I digitalized the only copy I have of this number 0. There has been a number 1 that will appear here in the future. The "Decotes" intended to occupy an alternative cultural space and at the time we looked natural the quotations of Friedrich Nietzsche next to photographs of our hometown. I remember the help of Arsélio Martins and José Vaz da Silva.

Mário Soares (1924-2017)

It was April 1989 when I took these pictures. It was the funeral of the Bishop of Porto who once wrote a famous letter to Salazar. This was the only time I photographed Mário Soares and talked to the man who has left us. A small tribute and a set of images with some historical interest.
